ＳＰ校Study Visitの４日目，７月２８日（水）は８：３０にＳＰ校Convention Centreに集合してバスに乗り込み，TonyさんやTracy先生とともに一日かけてシンガポールの水環境関連施設などを見学しました。　最初の見学先は，　　　　　　 Marina Barrage　(http://www.pub.gov.sg/Marina/Pages/default.aspx)　でした。Marina Barrageはシンガポール・リバーの河口のMarina Bayに新しく建設された河口堰とその関連施設です。シンガポールは小さな島国ですが，人口密度が高く水道原水の半分を隣国のマレーシアから輸入しています。Marina Barrageにはこの問題を解消するための水道水源としての役割を担っています。
　On July 28 (the fourth day), after we met at Convention Centre at 8:30 a.m., got on a bus and visited institutions connected with water environment in Singapore with Tony and Ms. Tracy all the day.　First, we visited Marina Barrage(http://www.pub.gov.sg/Marina/Pages/default.aspx).  They are a weir of a river mouth and an institution which relates to it.　They were newly built in Marina Bay at the mouth of Singapore River.  Though Singapore is a small island country, it is a thickly populated country and imports half amount of tap water from Malaysia.  Marina Barrage takes an important role as the source of water supply which solves this problem.
　次に訪れたのが，NEWater Visitor Centre (http://www.pub.gov.sg/NEWater/Pages/default.aspx)でした。NEWaterはシンガポール政府のPUB（公益事業庁）が推進している下水の高度処理（逆浸透膜処理）による再生水（Recycled Water）であり，先に訪れたMarina Barrageや海水淡水化施設とともに重要な水道水源としての役割を担っています。また，２１世紀は「環境の世紀」あるいは「水の世紀」と言われ，世界の水ビジネスは２０２５年には１００兆円の巨大市場になると試算されています。シンガポール政府はNEWaterによって，ヴェオリアやスエズ（ともにフランス）といった「水メジャー」に対抗して市場の開拓を進めています。このようなシンガポールにおける水環境施設を見学することで学生らは世界の最新の水事情を理解することができたことと思います。

NEWWater is recycled water which sewage is highly treated by PUB of Singapore government, and is important source of tap water same as Marina Barrage and the institution which convert seawater to freshwater.  Also, the 21st century is called ‘Century of environment’ or ‘ Century of water’, and water business of the world is said to become a huge market of 100 trillion yen in 2025.  Singapore government advances to open up a market against ‘ water major ’ like Veolia or Suez (France) by NEWater.  Students could understand the newest world water situation by visiting water environment institutions like these in Singapore.
